Free and low cost ways to balance your hormones

I saw a juice cleanse for almost £200 the other day. The packaging was lovely but essentially it was just frozen juice in plastic bottles and it wasn't even organic

I make sure my products are an investment in your health and as affordable as possible. My aim is to make wellness easy for you, and I want to let you know that the power to be healthy is in your hands and you don't have to pay anyone anything to be healthy. As we're talking about hormones this month I wanted to share some free or low cost ways to balance your hormones and stay in great health

  1. Look after your gut. Gut and hormone health are linked and taking care of your gut health will have a positive effect on hormone balance. A great way to do this is to bring fermented vegetables into your diet. You can make your own just using cabbage and salt. Here's a quick follow along recipe video I posted on instagram a while ago.   2. Exercise has been shown to reduce stress levels and help to balance. Cardio, strength training and yoga have all been shown to have a positive effect so aim to incorporate lots of different types of fitness in your lifestyle
  3. Lose excess weight - obesity is strongly related to lower levels of sex hormones which effects our overall health and wellness. If your hormones are unbalanced weight loss can be a vicious cycle as you probably know. Intermittent fasting and regular detoxing can be really helpful with this, and both are useful in themselves for hormone balance when practiced correctly. I write about both of these subjects often so stay tuned
  4. Sleep - poor sleep is linked to many different hormonal imbalances. Restorative sleep is essential for helping your body to regulate and balance your hormones. In Ayurveda we're advised to be in bed by 10pm to ensure our bodies can go through all the necessary sleep cycles as these all play different roles in our healing and wellness 
  5. Sprout - research has shown that the sulforaphane in broccoli sprouts detoxifies harmful estrogen and can kill cancer cells. It is particularly useful in perimenopause when we tend to have an estrogen dominance. You can get this in supplement form but these are expensive. Alternatively you can buy the seeds from your local health food shop for well under £5 and just sprout your own. Here's a guide
